Understanding asbestos and how we support your needs
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was widely used in construction and manufacturing because of its strength, durability, heat resistance, and insulating properties. While once considered a valuable building material, it is now recognised as a serious health hazard. When asbestos-containing materials are damaged or disturbed, fibres can be released into the air and inhaled, potentially leading to serious illnesses such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
As part of our professional asbestos management services, Kadec Asbestos Management helps organisations identify, assess, and manage asbestos risks within older buildings and complex environments. Asbestos may still be present in many properties built before 2000, making proper identification and ongoing management essential for protecting occupants, contractors, visitors, and regulatory compliance.

Types of asbestos and where to find them
There are two sets of different risks…
In the construction industry you will only ever find 3 types of asbestos fibres in building fabrics, whereas when working with historic objects and buildings you can easily identify up to 6 different types of asbestos fibres, which therefore increases the risk of exposure in the heritage sector.
There are six recognised asbestos minerals, grouped into two categories: serpentine and amphibole. The most common is chrysotile (white asbestos), which was widely used in ceilings, walls, floors, and roofing products. Amosite (brown asbestos) was frequently found in insulation boards, cement sheets, and pipe insulation, while crocidolite (blue asbestos) was used in specialist insulation and spray coatings due to its heat resistance.
The remaining types, anthophyllite, tremolite, and actinolite, were less commonly used but can still be found in certain building materials or as contaminants within other asbestos products. Understanding the different forms of asbestos helps support accurate identification, risk assessment, and safe management.

The value of regulatory compliance
Kadec takes on the roles and responsibilities of your legal compliance, therefore assisting you in ensuring that whatever your asbestos risks are, we can deal with them entirely without the need for your concern or time requirements.
At Kadec Asbestos Management, we help property owners, portfolio managers, individual businesses, heritage organisations, museums, and duty holders identify, assess, and manage asbestos-containing materials safely and responsibly.
